With a natural eye for detail and an instinct for aesthetics, Sooumita Roy discovered her passion for interior design at an early age. Growing up in a creatively rich environment, she was deeply drawn to art, architecture, and the emotional language of spaces.

She went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree from Calcutta University and a Diploma in Interior Design and Decoration from VTI, laying a strong foundation for her creative journey. Her thirst for knowledge led her to become a Certified Permaculturist and receive specialized training in Sustainable Interior Design—skills that now influence her conscious and balanced approach to projects.

Over the past 15+ years, she has worked with leading design studios, gaining hands-on experience in residential, commercial, and boutique interiors. Today, as the Founder and Principal Designer of Kalasuu Hommes, Sooumita blends heart, intuition, and technical expertise to create soulful, story-driven spaces that truly reflect the identity of the people who live in them.

After studying design and working with renowned firms, she felt a growing urge to create something more personal, more meaningful. In 2021, Kalasuu Hommes was born—a studio dedicated to crafting interiors that aren’t just beautiful but deeply you.

Professional Journey: 2008–2025

The journey of Sooumita Roy as an interior designer began in 2008, fresh out of design school, driven by ambition and a deep desire to create meaningful spaces. She started with an internship at a reputed interior design firm, where she learned the nuances of space planning, technical drawing, and client coordination.

From 2009 to 2017, she worked with leading interior design studios, managing residential and commercial projects. This phase taught her the importance of functionality, site execution, and vendor management. She was involved in end-to-end project delivery—right from concept boards to final site handovers.

Between 2017 and 2021, Sooumita began exploring more expressive and narrative-driven design, experimenting with textures, local crafts, and fusion styles. During this time, she also led multiple turnkey interior projects, allowing her to integrate design with execution at a much deeper level.

In 2022, she took a bold step forward and launched her own design consultancy. With a few loyal clients and a strong vision, she began shaping a brand rooted in soulful, story-led design. That same year, amid global uncertainties, she officially founded Kalasuu Hommes—a studio with a simple yet powerful goal: to create spaces that feel like emotional extensions of the people who inhabit them.

From 2022 to 2025, her journey has been one of steady growth. She has led over 50 projects, including 3BHK homes, boutique retail spaces, and cozy studio apartments. Her team has expanded, the design language has evolved, and the studio has built a reputation for personalized interiors, mindful material use, and elegant detailing. Today, she not only leads projects but also mentors young designers and collaborates with artisans to bring meaningful design to life.
